Productivity, RVUs and quality guardrails
13 Productivity, RVUs and quality guardrails When is a busy schedule not an effective schedule?
Core ideas from class
- Common operating indicators include visits per full-time equivalent (FTE), units or RVUs per day, cancellations, revenue per visit and staffing time.
- Denominators matter: visits per calendar day, visits per staffed day and visits per treating FTE can tell different stories.
- Compare output with outcomes, safety, access and clinician workload; a high count alone is not a patient-care success.
Think like a PT
If a clinic’s visits rise while no-shows, poor outcomes and staff turnover also rise, explain why visits-per-FTE alone is inadequate.
Remember
A good dashboard balances access, outcomes, staff sustainability and financial stewardship.
