Lipids and Cardiometabolic Health

Dietary fats are important sources of energy and essential fatty acids. The lecture covers triglycerides, phospholipids, sterols, and the ways fat type can affect health.

What matters most

  • Core lipid families. Triglycerides contain glycerol with three fatty acids; phospholipids are membrane components; cholesterol is a sterol with physiological roles.
  • Saturated versus unsaturated. Fatty-acid chains differ in saturation. Monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats are often liquid at room temperature; saturated fats are commonly more solid.THATPTGUY / FROM MY PT SCHOOL NOTES Nutrition · Draft V1 · Educational study notes
  • Trans fats. Industrial trans-fat intake is an established cardiovascular concern; avoid reusing older packaging examples as if they describe today’s food supply.

The PT connection

Nutrition is one element in cardiovascular risk. PT counseling can support movement and basic food literacy, while a lipid-management plan is developed with the medical or nutrition team.

Current-practice perspective

The source has fixed intake examples and dated supplement assertions. Avoid a blanket claim that all omega-3 supplements cause bleeding or that fat-free diets are preferable.
