FROM MY PT SCHOOL NOTES · HEALTHCARE SYSTEMS · UNIT 5 · CHAPTER 21
Mission, vision, values and hierarchy
21 Mission, vision, values and hierarchy How do you know whether a clinic’s mission is actually being used?
Core ideas from class
- Mission describes present purpose; vision describes desired future; values articulate guiding behaviors.
- A strategic aim only becomes useful when translated into measurable choices about staffing, access, services or patient experience.
- Organizational hierarchy affects escalation, autonomy, handoffs and response time. Clear responsibility matters more than a flashy org chart.
Think like a PT
Convert “deliver excellent care” into two observable actions and a measure that matters to patients.
Remember
Values are demonstrated by decisions and processes—not merely wall posters.
Historical source note: Framework and vocabulary are retained; example mission statements are rewritten.
