Quality improvement and customer service
23 Quality improvement and customer service What does “quality” mean beyond a five-star review?
Core ideas from class
- Distinguish patient-perceived service quality from clinical effectiveness and from how an organization measures each.
- Track outcomes, access, adherence to appropriate processes, patient experience and adverse events together.
- Small quality-improvement cycles work well: identify a gap, test a change, measure it, review unintended effects and revise.
Think like a PT
Patients complain about long waits. Compare wait times, cancellations, staffing and patient outcomes before implementing shorter appointments.
Remember
Quality means safe, appropriate and effective care as well as a respectful experience.
